Samsung unveils Gear VR virtual reality headset
Samsung has launched its first virtual reality wearable headset, Gear VR Innovator Edition, ahead of IFA 2014 in Berlin.Powered by Oculus technology, makers of the Oculus Rift, the Samsung Gear VR offers new way to experience and consume mobile content. It allows users to fully immerse themselves in a cinematic virtual reality environment.
The headset's optical lens offers a 96degree field of view, and has less than 20ms motion to photon latency. It has a touch pad, back button, and volume key and measures 198x116x90mm.
The headset uses the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (connected via microUSB 1.1) as its display that boast of a 5.7-inch Quad-HD Super AMOLED display. The headset is equipped with accelerator, gyrometer, magnetic, and proximity sensors.
The Gear VR headset offers full 360 3D video, and allows users to experience gaming in an immersive way. The headset can use the Note 4's camera offering a high frame rate preview of 60fps.
